A Pledge for Mom’s Everywhere

A Pledge for Mom’s Everywhere

I have a confession to make.

I eat trash.

No really.  I do.  At the end of a meal, as I’m cleaning up dishes and scraping plates, I frequently find that the food that is destined for the garbage disposal somehow finds its way into my mouth.  Instead of being obliterated by that grinding contraption it is ground right into my digestive tract, and just because it wasn’t my meal doesn’t mean the calories don’t count.kids leftovers

Why do we mothers do this to ourselves?  True, I cannot stand to waste food.  It’s almost an obsession to me to use all the leftovers in the fridge before I will spend money on more–but really–half-eaten toast and picked-over peaches?  It is time for mothers everywhere to make a pledge.  No more eating garbage.  If it’s not good enough the first time around for our two year olds, then it is certainly not good enough for us.  And if that little soapbox sermon isn’t enough to keep you from downing that last mouthful of of mac & cheese, here are a few stats that will be.  A few mindless mouthfuls really add up:

Macaroni & Cheese:  1/4 cup–103 calories

Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich:  1/4 sandwich–98 calories

Grilled Cheese Sandwich:  1/4 sandwich–85 calories

Hot Dog:  1/2 w/ bun & ketchup–110 calories

Pepperoni Pizza:  1/2 piece–150 calories
