Aerobicmom.com: What it’s All About

Posted on 14. Dec, 2009 by in Work Your Body

Okay, this week’s blog posts are actually an assignment from my blogging expert husband, (and actually came from a 31 Day blogging challenge by Problogger, Darren Rowse).

And the assignment is this: an elevator pitch.  Basically, an elevator pitch is a concise, but thorough “mission statement” that explains what your blog is all about.  The idea is that if you were in an elevator and somebody asked you about your blog, you could explain it to them in the amount of time you had before either of you reached your floor.  This is something I’ve actually wanted to do for some time, because as I’ve stated before, I believe that the WHY behind we do changes everything.

So, here goes.  In case any of you have been wondering who I am talking to, what I am talking about, and why I am talking in the first place, it all comes back to my tag line.

Real Moms.  Real bodies.  Real perspective.

Today I’ll talk about the first part.

Real Moms

I am writing to anyone who has an interest in health and wellness, but more specifically to women, and even more specifically to moms.  Why women?  Because as women, we are constantly bombarded with absolutely idiotic messages regarding what it means to be healthy, successful and sexy.  Have you ever checked out the magazine covers at the grocery checkout?  There is usually 1 of 2 cover shots:  a beautiful woman who is scantily-clad and perfectly airbrushed, or a lavishly decorated double-decker chocolate cake.  Conflicting messages?  I think so. Do either of them have anything to do with our actual value as women?  I think not.

Why moms?

Because there are some things that only moms get.  Only moms know what it’s like to be puked on multiple times in a given day and keep going back for more.  Only moms know what it’s like to be able to snap to attention from the deepest sleep at the slightest variation in a newborn’s breathing pattern.  Only moms know what it’s like to get to the end of a completely exhausting and busy day only to realize that you can’t pin down a single thing you’ve actually done.

Why Real? stepfordwife

Because in our image-driven culture, it becomes all too tempting to give in to the rat race and try to project a perfect front.  Yes, we’ve got it all together.  We bake lavishly decorated double-decker chocolate cakes while we read educational books to our immaculately dressed children in our spotless and custom decorated homes after we’ve woken up at 5 am for our morning jog and showered our washboard abs for the perfect day ahead.

Real women know that many times, our homes, our children, and our abs are far less than perfect despite our best efforts.  And Real Women know that being perfect isn’t the point in the first place.  Ironically, the point is….being Real.  Authentic. 100% You.

Real Moms.  There’s nothing more Real than motherhood.
